Spicy Nuts: A Delicious Holiday Sleep Aid

You can rhyme it or sing it but any way you say it, holidays are merrier when there’s a big bowl of spicy nuts to snack on. While your company mills around the kitchen- the glorious aroma of roasting turkey promising a Christmas meal to remember- you can satisfy their cravings for something filling, nourishing and special by offering these noshable nuts.

Cashews and almonds provide a host of minerals and nutrition but did you know that they may also compliment a Christmas feast in another unexpected way? Cashews up the ante on the fabled turkey-induced slumber because a quarter cup of cashews contain 28% of your daily intake of the rumored sleep-inducing amino acid, tryptophan.

Whether this spicy nuts will help you sleep at night is still up for debate but what is well known is that your guests will joyfully pop mouthfuls of these delightful holiday treats into their mouths. This recipe makes 4 c. of nuts.Holiday Nuts2

Preheat oven to 350F

2 c. raw cashews
1 1/2 c. raw almonds
1/2 c. pecans
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 Tbsp sesame oil
1 Tbsp hot sauce
2 small or 1 large clove garlic, minced
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp mustard powder
1 Tbsp soya sauce
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt

Mix wet ingredients together and then pour over nuts. Toss well to coat and let sit for ten minutes. Spread nuts over a baking sheet and pop into the oven, stirring every five minutes for 15 minutes total. Let cool before sampling.
