60 Million Girls is a Canadian charity that raises money to fund school building projects for girls in developing nations. This is the main charity for my own fundraising group, the Souris Charity Bike Tour. I strongly believe that educating girls is the most fundamental way to change the world for the better. If you give a girl an education you acknowledge that she is a person- not a possession. When you educated a girl you show her the light of knowledge so she no longer has to live in the shadows of ignorance. Educated women raise healthier families, they participate in and encourage healthy communities. In places where women are educated you see lower infant mortality rates, lower mother mortality rates and lower birth rates. Educated women are less likely to allow their sons to join militant movements that are detrimental to humanity. Educated women make life better for themselves and for the people that surround them. I can’t think of a worthier cause.
